Step 1: Measure your band size
Standing in front of a mirror, wrap a tape measure snugly around your chest, just under or at the crease beneath your breasts and flush against your back. Look in the mirror to make sure the tape measure is parallel to the floor and flat across your back. Take this measurement in inches and write it down. You'll need to do a little basic math to find your proper band size.

If the number is even, add 4 to get your band size If the number is odd, add 5 to get your band size.

Example: If you measured 30, add 4 so your band size will be 34. If you measured 31, add 5 so your band size will be 36

Step 2: Measure your cup size
Now, standing in front of the mirror as before, wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your breasts (at the nipple). The tape measure should be straight, parallel to the floor and flat across your back. Take this measurement in inches and write it down. Take this number and subtract your band size measurement from it. The difference will tell you what your cup size is, based on the following chart.

Example: If your Band measurement is 34, and your new measurement, from the fullest part of your breast is 36, the difference is 2, and your cup size is "B".

You’re done! Your band size, along with the cup size determined from the chart is your new bra size. Based on the example above, if your band measurement was 34 and your cup measurement was 36 - you would be a 36 B.

Panties

Avoid panty lines and uncomfortable "riding up" by finding your proper panty size. It only takes a couple of minutes and the results will ensure ultimate comfort. Remember, your panty size may differ from your pant size due to manufacturer differences.

You'll need to take 2 simple measurements: your waist and hips. You'll need a soft tape measure and a mirror to ensure the accuracy.

Step 1: Measure your waist
Wrap the tape measure snugly, but without cinching, around the natural indentation or break at your waist. If you can't find this curve, bend to the side and the crease will show you where to measure. This is your waist measurement. Write it down, you'll need it in a moment.

Step 2: Measure your hips
Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your hips. Use the mirror to make sure the tape measure is straight completely around. The tape measure should be snug and parallel to the floor. Write this down as well.

Match your numbers to the chart to see your proper panty size.

Example: If your waist measured 28, and your hips measured 38, your panty size will be either Medium or Size 6.

Shapewear

To measure properly for Shapewear, you'll need 3 basic measurements: waist, hips and panty size. Shapewear varies in control levels, all the way from "light control" to "extra firm control". Regardless of your control preference, you'll need to find your proper size to get just the right fit. Shapewear that is properly sized, creates smooth lines and a more toned appearance under clothes of all types, so get a pencil and your soft measure to find the right size for you. You may want to stand in front of a mirror to make sure the tape measure stays straight.

Step 1: Measuring your waist
Wrap the tape measure snugly, but without cinching, around the natural indentation or break at your waist. If you can't find this curve, bend to the side and the crease will show you where to measure. This is your waist measurement. Write it down, you'll need it in a moment.

Step 2: Measure your hips

How to know if you’ve made a common Bra Sizing Mistake

  • Your breasts are overflowing your bra or not completely filling the cups.
  • The back of your bra is riding up. The back of your bra should lie straight across your back. If you are looking for support, you may want to consider a bra that lays a little further down your back.
  • Your underwire is digging in. If you wear an underwire bra, it should be comfortable. It should never leave a red mark.
  • Your bra is causing bulges or cutting into the flesh.
  • The front of your bra is not laying flat against your chest.
  • Your shoulder straps are giving you too much support. Your shoulder straps need to be adjusted if they fall off your shoulder or dig into your shoulder. Again, your shoulder straps should never cause red marks.
  • The edges of the cups aren't laying flat against your breast. If you are wearing a padded bra, there may be a gap. If this is the case, go down a cup size.

What if One of your Breasts is Larger than the Other?

Women don’t talk about this often, but it isn't uncommon for one breast to be slightly bigger than the other. Be sure to take this into account when buying a bra.

  • If there’s only a little difference, wear a larger sized bra to fit your larger breast.
  • If there is a substantial difference, look at getting a breast cup for the smaller sized breast. You can also make your own bra, or have one specially made for you.
  • Take your problem to a lingerie specialist and see what suggestions they offer. Many places offer alterations so you can get the perfect fit.
